This argument by pro-Israeli's is another hollow canard. Because there has been violence at the Mexican border that has claimed many American lives. In Tijuana and Juarez, there has been 1000's of murders. Dozens of these have been US border patrol and law enforcement. In fact, Mexican soldiers have been caught on the US side a number of times in the past few years. A couple of these incidents, the Mexican soldiers unprovoked, fired on the US law enforcement. There has been a virtual blackout on this in the US media, but one Texas-bound independant news agency, infowars.com, has kept track of this. Go to the site and do a search and you will see for yourselves.
THe fact that Israelis continue to use this weak excuse and no one brings up these incidents in Mexico is disgusting.

You said the caliphate took the land from the Romans and then allowed the jews to go free.

Following that line of argument then, I would say the Palestinians have no claim to the land, because the land was taken from the Jews in the 1st century.

The people of islam had their own land to live in circa 630AD, but they chose to move into Jerusalem (whether by force or friendship is immaterial). Well fast forward to 1948AD. The Jews were living in different lands and chose to move back into Jerusalem. So technically, I really can't see why Palestinians refuse to acknowledge that the Jews have some claim to the land.
After-all, I think we can all agree the temple was constructed by the Jews much BEFORE the mosque was constructed by the Muslims.

I'm neither anti-israel or Anti-Palestine. I am however saddened and horrified by what's going on.
The current Israeli actions (killing many civilians) cannot under any circumstances be justified and must be stopped, and humanitarian rights re-established. The only results of oppressing a people so much is to radicalise them, and I fear for the fruits of the current conflict.
However, the same can be the Palestinian missiles that keep being lobbed over into civilian areas in Israel.
Surely it's self-evident by now that violence only begets more violence and that a negotiated solution is the only solution?

As probably the only Canadian commenting on this blog let me tell you what Canada would do if we had people who want our land. For those of you not aware - we actually have a seperatist movement in Canada - a very strong one called the Bloc Quebecois that wants and Independent Quebec. Does Canada blow missile into it? NO

Israel has a problem. The Palestinians it is tormenting and killing today will come of age within a decade. Israel should leverage its current economic and military superiority to bring about lasting peace.
Only, I don't think it is winning over too many hearts and minds in this latest war.
Gaza has a problem, too. It is suffering pain and hunger and the needless death of many in a prideful stand behind Hamas. The people of Gaza will carry scars on the outside and inside for the rest of their lives... and for the children, that will be most of their lives.
So... Gaza loses today and suffers. Israel forfeits tomorrow and sets up its own suffering to come. Both sides will lose much.
Arabs need to accept once and for all that they lost the wars they started.
