Scenes from yesterday's Jericho prison raid

Palestinians security forces, after being forced to strip down to their underwear by Israeli troops, sit captive in front of an army vehicle (AP).

Palestinian prisoners and security officers, forced to strip down to their underwear by Israeli troops, stand outside the raided Jericho jail (AP).

Angry protests spilled over into the street in Gaza. Members of the PFLP closed off roads with whatever they could find (here, a trash bin), and called a general strike in protest of the Israeli raid.

A PFLP gunman hoists his groups flag atop a building housing the office of Amideast, a STate department funded American educational institue, after briefly storming it.

I suppose it's a bad time to book that trip to Gaza.

Thanks a heap, Ehud.

The extremes of humiliation stripping the security guys of their clothes..can you imagine the outrage if that was done to western soldiers?

umm.. Zak I don't know how to tell you this but prisoners of war are stripped of thier Uniform. Notice that some of them have thier clothing back on and the rest are walking with it on them (even if not wearing it). The reason for this is a strange concept, maybe you heard of it, called Suicide Bombers! - they have a tendancy to carry explosives on their body.

Btw - Where are the pictures of the Gazains Shooting at the British Councule and then taking it over??

Both the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times printed pictures of the stripped PA security guys on their front pages.

And US people wonder why other people want to kill us. Even if the suicide bomber excuse for this stripping had some (very slight) validity, printing the image of public humiliation is no way to treat fellow human beings.

Janin, nobody except a group of extremists in every society advocate killing indiscriminately..these acts of degradation just push moderates into a position where they can no longer advocate peace...

When governments break people in every way and form..some people snap, when they snap they strike out blindly..it is human nature. But when Armies and structured societies do that ..they can't invoke the same excuse.

Zak - the problem here is that the Extremests wone 70% of the seats in the Pal. Elections.
This is not Extremism - This is the mainstream of society in the West back and Gaza - Most of them want to see the Streets of TA and Jerusalem Coverd in Jewish Blood (the arab world has been saying that for 50 years now).
I wish I could find some moderates to talk to thier - but the moderates are in a huge minority.
And it's funny - India Didn't Lash out at the UK in the 30 - 40s when they were being humiliated, Jews didn't lash out at Germans After WWII, South America Never Lashed out at spain. Africa didn't Lash out at Euorope After the colonies took place there. Can you give an example of this in History??
Also there is nothing wrong with breaking your Enemy - It Saves lives, if they all had the will to fight - they would have died (or killed).

Extremists and war mongers have routinely swept elections in the US and Israel..as far as peaceful protest is concerned the first intifada was peaceful..what did that get the palestinains besides a few bantu style ghettos? Don't forget it was Sharon who triggered the last intifada.. War with the help of other Arab countries won't work because the US has shown it is willing to consider every military option including nukes when it comes to the defence of Israel..what pray tell would you as a palestinian do..how would you exercise power even if elected when your entire state apparatus has been destroyed?

ok.........
I am not sure what a war monger and extemist in the "World According to Zak" becuase the way I see it Extremist is one who has Extreme Ideas (like killing people in malls and blowing up busses with kids in It) But I could be wrong.

I don't know how I would excersize my power, but I can tell what I wouldn't do (see the above for examples of the NOT).

The Palestinians are always painted as the "extremists" and "murderers", yet we get numbers like this:

TOTALS SINCE SEPT 2000:
Israelis: 123 children killed

TOTALS FOR 2000:
Israelis: 0 children killed

TOTALS SINCE SEPT 2000:
Palestinians: 707 children killed

TOTALS FOR 2000:
Palestinians: 82 children killed

Maybe someone could explain to me why the good and decent and non-extremists Israeli are out-killing the Palestinians more than five to one?

The above is from a website

Let me ask you, would you be happier if the Number of Israeli Children that were killed equeled the number of Pal Children?

Of course not (I'd rather wished no children killed from either side) - but that is not the point here.
The point is: These numbers show clearly that not only the palestinians are not the only ones killing children, but that the Israelis killed nearly 6 times as many palestinian kids. If the Israelis are as decent and peaceful as they claim to be, why did they then kill so many children?

another interesting thing the numbers show: from the beginning of 2000 until the outbreak of the Intifada in September 2000, 82 palestinian Kids were killed - now may I ask what these have done? (This was BEFORE the Intifada!)

yasmin, you are wrong - the no. shows the time from Sept. to Dec. 2000.

I agree that it is bad that kids are killed in Wars and Battles, I wish there was a way to make sure that this would not happen, but then again I would wish that no one would have to die And that we could live in peace in this world.

part of the problem is that kids in pal. are anyone till 19. That includes militants (and terrorists - we have caught kids as young as 12 with bombs on them) and a 17 year old Pal with a rife does just as much damage as a 30 year old with the same rifle.

Also Remember that Israeli soldiers are never kids. Even though most of them are under the age of 20 (I was 19 in the out break of the intifadah). And since by definition they are not kids thye don't go into those Stats (while the same aged Pal is included).

I can tell you for a fact that the Teenagers took a real active role in the first wave of fighting that took place (some as youg as 12-13) - of course to them it was the thing to do in the afternoon. While you were playing your PLaystation or watching TV they were out throwing Rocks at Israeli Cars (and trust me you do not want to be in a car hit by a barage of rocks). I don't blame those kids for this - Seeing that their parents always watched from the side so that if things got a out of hand (or if it was time for dinner) they could call them back in to the house.

The bigger Problem here is Why are kids beeing used for these purpeses?
