On looting

According to Haaretz, and in confirmation of my last post, there has been massive looting of the Gaza settlements by public agencies, nonprofit organizations, individuals and even other local councils (not "Arab truck drivers"..why do people insist on reducing us as Palestinians in our entirety to a bunch of violent, lawless, barbaric thugs?), ever since the settlements were evacuated. The Gaza settlement council's liquidator filed a complaint with the police about the matter on Thursday.

Some of the big items, such as trash cans and lampposts, are thought to have been stolen by other local councils inside Israel, on the theory that the evacuated settlers no longer need this equipment, and it should not be left for the Palestinians. However, the liquidator is supposed to be selling such items to settle the disbanded regional council's debts. Government ministries are also suspected of having looted certain items, including kindergarten equipment.

Do you think it might have to do with the history of Palestinians involved with auto theft in Israel? I am providing a couple of links that mention auto theft by Palestinians. (more on google)

In Gaza do you know about it? IS it a sterotype? Also with Gaza closed off how do people get cars? Are there any dealerships?

I know I am asking a lot of questions. I am very curious about life in Gaza.

Salam, Laila, peace and blessings:

Nothing that the zionists do surprises me anymore. Recently I found a website that offers an interesting historical background on zionist massacres and the like for the uninformed www.voicesofpalestine.org Based in Seattle. Please tell us what you think of it.

Will you be in Washington,DC. to cover our demonstration on Sept. 24? In addition to the anti-war message we will also protest against the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Thank you for all that you do. Palestine forever.

Hi DAniel-
the NPR link is not accssible. But I took a look at the other one. Yes, ther is a "stolen car" trade in Gaza (and stolen other things too-there is a whole "thieves market" on Fridays ironicaly in small section of the outdoor souk, i imagine the same way there may be a black market of stolen goods in any slum in the world).

However I once myself was curious about the stolen car trade so I asked someone who knew about it. He said it is done in conjuction with Israeli Russian Mafia. Remember, nothing gets into Gaza without an Israeli middle man or Israeli oversight-nothing. So its not like you can just meander through ERez with a stolen car. On top of that, apparently the stolen car trade borders on "legitimate" in Israel. Is really weird. As for other cars, the are all shipped through the Israeli port Ashdod, they sometimes still have the shipping tag on them. Most come from Germany, are slightly used VW or Mercedes. But again, everything has to come through Israel, we don't have our own port or control over our own exports and imports.
